Barnby is a small, rural village and civil parish in the East Suffolk district of Suffolk, England, set on the edge of the wetland country of the Suffolk Broads and not far from the market town of Beccles. It retains a quiet, agricultural character with a compact historic core of cottages and farm buildings and a small, close-knit community centred on local activities and the parish council.
The parish is best known for the ecology of Barnby Broad and Marshes, a mosaic of broad, reedbed and grazing marsh that supports rich birdlife and wetland plants, and for the footpaths and waterways (including the nearby River Waveney) that attract walkers and wildlife-watchers; historically the landscape reflects centuries of fenland management and small-scale farming rather than industrial change.
