Lowestoft is a coastal town and civil parish in East Suffolk, Suffolk, England, sitting on the North Sea at the mouth of the River Waveney. It is the most easterly town in the UK, marked by Lowestoft Ness, and grew from a medieval fishing settlement into a 19th‑century hub for herring, boatbuilding and the noted 18th‑century Lowestoft porcelain industry.
Today the town mixes traditional seaside tourism and a working harbour with newer economic activity supporting offshore wind and marine services, while regeneration projects tackle pockets of social and economic challenge; culturally it punches above its size as the birthplace of composer Benjamin Britten and with a strong maritime heritage celebrated in local museums and festivals.
