Snape is a small riverside village in East Suffolk, set on the banks of the River Alde a few miles inland from the coastal town of Aldeburgh in Suffolk, England. Its setting on the tidal Alde estuary gives wide views over salt marshes and reedbeds, making it popular with birdwatchers and walkers and lending a quietly maritime character to the locality.
The village is best known for Snape Maltings, an atmospheric converted maltings complex that houses a well‑regarded concert hall, galleries and specialist shops and serves as a focus for the arts and tourism (notably linked to the Aldeburgh Festival). Historically tied to malting, boatbuilding and agriculture, Snape today combines a small local community with an economy boosted by cultural events, visitors and riverside recreation.
