Sunbury Common is a residential ward in the borough of Spelthorne, lying in the suburban fringe of Surrey in England. It sits close to the bend of the River Thames and the well-known Kempton Park area, giving residents easy access to riverside green space and the large open expanse around Kempton Park Racecourse. Good rail and road links – including Sunbury railway station and easy routes into London and to Heathrow – mean many locals commute for work while enjoying quieter suburban streets at home.
The ward has a mixed history and character: formerly in Middlesex until county boundary changes in the 1960s, it combines pockets of Victorian and interwar housing with more recent developments, local shops and community facilities. Cultural and heritage touches such as the nearby Kempton Park Steam Museum and regular events at the racecourse add local colour, while the commons and towpaths remain important for leisure and community activity. Economically it’s largely residential with a service-orientated local economy and strong commuter links.
