Tilbury is a riverside town in the borough of Thurrock in England, sitting on the north bank of the River Thames near the estuary. It’s dominated by the waterfront - notably the busy Port of Tilbury and docks - and lies within easy commuting distance of London, giving it an industrial but well‑connected character.
The town is best known for Tilbury Fort, the 16th‑ and 17th‑century artillery work where Queen Elizabeth I addressed troops in 1588, and for a long history of ship‑building, immigration and dockside industry; today it combines ongoing port activity with residential neighbourhoods, local shops and regeneration projects and a diverse community shaped by its maritime past.
