Altrincham is a ward in the south of the borough of Trafford, within Greater Manchester, lying just south‑west of central Manchester and close to the Cheshire border. The town grew up as a market settlement from the 13th century and still centres on a compact historic core by the River Bollin, with surviving Victorian streets and civic buildings giving it a distinct character.
Today the ward mixes a busy retail and leisure high street with a strong independent scene - the restored market hall, cafés and restaurants have helped transform the evening economy - and benefits from excellent transport links into Manchester. It is generally regarded as relatively affluent and family‑oriented, popular with commuters, and has seen steady regeneration and conservation activity that supports local cultural events and community life.
