Ackworth is a sizeable village and civil parish in the metropolitan borough of Wakefield in West Yorkshire, England. It includes the settlements of High Ackworth, Low Ackworth and Ackworth Moor Top, set across gently rolling farmland and sandstone ridges not far from Pontefract and within easy commuting distance of Wakefield, Leeds and Sheffield.
The place is known for a strong Quaker heritage and the historic Ackworth School, an 18th century Quaker foundation, plus a well-preserved conservation area of stone houses and listed buildings. Once influenced by nearby coal mining and longstanding agriculture, today it combines commuter living with local independent shops, village pubs, active community groups and pleasant lanes and footpaths that give it a distinctly local, village atmosphere.
