Grayrigg is a small, rural parish in Westmorland and Furness, England, tucked on the eastern edge of the Lake District fringe where rolling pasture meets the lower slopes of the Howgill Fells. Its landscape of drystone walls, pasture and winding lanes follows the River Lune valley and sits close to the M6, so while it feels remote the parish is easily reached from nearby market towns such as Kendal and Tebay.
The local economy is largely agricultural with hill and sheep farming, but the area also attracts walkers and cyclists exploring the fells and quieter lanes. The community is small and centred on the village church and hall, and the parish is known more recently as the scene of a fatal derailment on the West Coast Main Line in 2007, a reminder of how a tranquil rural place can sit alongside major transport links.
