Leigh South is a ward in the southern part of the town of Leigh, within the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan in Greater Manchester. It combines predominantly residential streets with pockets of post‑industrial landscape and small green spaces, and benefits from road and rail links that make commuting into Manchester and surrounding towns straightforward.
Historically part of Lancashire, the area grew through textiles and coal mining and that industrial legacy still shows in local buildings and community institutions. Today the ward is socially mixed, with local shops, community centres and a strong rugby‑league interest around town clubs; recent regeneration efforts have focused on housing, leisure and improving retail provision while many residents work in the wider Greater Manchester economy.
