Lowton East is a suburban‑semi‑rural ward in the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan, lying within the historic county of Lancashire and taking in the eastern side of the village of Lowton. Its position on the edge of Greater Manchester makes it popular with commuters, while still retaining a village feel and ready access to the wider urban centres of Manchester and Liverpool.
The area has grown out of an agricultural and industrial past into a largely residential community with pockets of greenbelt, local shops, village pubs and active sports and social clubs; small businesses and commuters now dominate the local economy. There’s a strong sense of local identity, reflected in parish activities, community events and conservation of nearby open spaces, which gives the ward a blend of historic roots and modern suburban life.
