Old Windsor sits in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead on the River Thames, a short distance west of Windsor and adjoining Windsor Great Park. The ward keeps strong historic roots - there was a Saxon royal residence here before Windsor Castle rose to prominence - and the landscape of the Thames, parks and tree-lined lanes still gives it a semi-rural feel.
Today the area is largely residential with a sizeable commuter population to London, supported by a small but lively local economy of shops, pubs and equestrian businesses, while village events, riverside leisure and easy access to nearby Eton and the tourist draw of Windsor help define its social and cultural character.
