Gilford is a small village and electoral ward in the borough of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon in Northern Ireland, historically part of County Down. It sits on the banks of the River Bann, roughly between Banbridge and Portadown, and combines a compact village centre with surrounding farmland and riverside open space.
The settlement expanded in the 19th century with the growth of the linen industry and a river crossing, and you can still pick out old mill sites, weirs and other industrial traces. Today it feels like a working rural community with local shops, churches, clubs and voluntary groups, while many residents commute to nearby towns for work; the river and surrounding lanes also make it popular for walks and informal outdoor recreation.
