Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon is a local government area in Northern Ireland that covers parts of Counties Armagh and Down, running from the cathedral city of Armagh across the planned new town of Craigavon to market towns such as Banbridge, Portadown and Lurgan, with smaller communities like Dromore and Tandragee. The terrain is classic drumlin countryside and the authority includes sections of the southern shore of Lough Neagh, the largest lake in the British Isles.
There’s a strong historical and cultural mix here: Armagh is known as the ecclesiastical capital with St Patrick associations and the nearby Iron Age site of Navan Fort, while the likes of Banbridge, Lurgan and Portadown carry a legacy of the linen and industrial eras. Visitors and residents enjoy twin cathedrals, the Armagh Observatory, local museums, festivals and plenty of walking country.
Economically the area is varied, with agriculture and food processing alongside manufacturing, logistics and retail; Craigavon still shows the imprint of 1960s new‑town planning with business parks and housing estates. Socially it’s a diverse, changing region with community regeneration schemes and good commuter links into Belfast shaping its development.
