Drumnakilly is a largely rural ward in Fermanagh and Omagh, Northern Ireland, lying on the drumlin-strewn landscape at the foothills of the Sperrin Mountains near Omagh and historically part of County Tyrone. The area is characterised by small farms, pasture and pockets of peatland and forestry; agriculture (sheep and cattle), small-scale peat cutting and forestry remain important, while many residents commute to nearby towns for work.
Community life is typical of rural Tyrone, with local clubs, community halls and a strong sense of local identity; the built environment includes old farmhouses, churches and traces of earlier settlement such as ringforts. The ward’s history and landscape reflect long rural traditions and twentieth-century social change, and it continues to be shaped by efforts to sustain local services and community activity in a sparsely populated area.
