Fermanagh and Omagh

District council area in Northern Ireland

Coordinates:54.43, -7.57

Fermanagh and Omagh is a local government district in Northern Ireland, created in 2015 by the merger of the former districts of Fermanagh and Omagh. The area is largely rural and centred on the towns of Enniskillen and Omagh, and is famed for its lakelands around Lough Erne, the rolling uplands of the Sperrin Mountains and the karst landscape of the Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark, where the Cuilcagh boardwalk has become a popular walking destination.

Economically the district relies on agriculture, tourism, small-scale manufacturing and cross‑border trade with the Republic of Ireland, while socially it retains strong Gaelic cultural traditions, music and community festivals. The area is also rich in history, from prehistoric sites and early monastic remains to a more recent past shaped by partition and the Troubles, all of which contribute to a distinctive local identity and active heritage sector.
