The Carryduff West electoral ward sits on the southern fringe of the Belfast conurbation within Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council in Northern Ireland. It covers the western side of the small town of Carryduff, a mix of suburban housing, pockets of farmland and roadside retail set in the rolling drumlin landscape of the Lagan Valley area.
Historically the settlement grew as a crossroads - its Irish name An Carraig Dhubh, meaning “the black rock”, hints at local geology - and today the ward combines a commuter population working in Belfast with local shops, schools and community facilities. Community life tends to centre on parish churches, clubs and modest light-industry and retail units, giving Carryduff West a semi‑rural character rather than an urban one.
