Caledon

The Caledon electoral ward lies within the Mid Ulster district of Northern Ireland, covering the small village of Caledon and the surrounding drumlin farmland close to the border with the Republic. The area is dominated by the historic Caledon estate and its mature parkland, giving the ward a distinctly rural and picturesque character compared with larger towns in the district.

Historically the settlement grew around the estate and retains a number of listed buildings and an estate-village feel; agriculture remains the mainstay of the local economy while a handful of small businesses and commuters to nearby centres supplement incomes. Social life is village-centred, with churches, clubs and community events playing an outsized role, and the combination of heritage landscape and cross-border location gives the ward modest tourism and conservation interest.
