Coalisland South is an electoral ward on the southern side of the town of Coalisland, within the Mid Ulster district of Northern Ireland. The area sits close to the edge of the old Tyrone coalfield and not far from Lough Neagh, and its 19th‑century growth was shaped by coal mining and the short canal that once linked the town to wider waterways, a feature still visible in local heritage.
Today the ward mixes suburban housing with surrounding farmland and small local businesses, and many residents commute to nearby centres such as Dungannon. It has a strong community life centred on schools, clubs and a notable GAA presence, shaped by a working‑class identity and a complex recent history that feeds into active local civic and cultural organisations.
