Eilean Loain is a small, largely wooded island tucked into a sheltered sea loch off the west coast of Argyll and Bute, Scotland. Its rocky shoreline, shallow bays and surrounding skerries make it a quiet haven for seals and seabirds and a handy sheltered anchorage for local boaters and kayakers.
Historically the island formed part of the coastal crofting and fishing economy, and traces of past seasonal use and simple shore buildings can still be found; today it is typically uninhabited or privately owned and is valued more for wildlife, recreation and its place in Argyll’s Gaelic island landscape than as a site of modern industry. Visitors usually encounter it as one of the many small islands that together define the social and maritime character of the west coast.
