Inveraray sits on the western shore at the head of Loch Fyne in Argyll and Bute, Scotland, and feels very much like the gateway to the western Highlands. The compact, whitewashed village is tucked among wooded hills and shoreline, offering dramatic views over the loch and easy access to nearby woods and rugged coastal scenery such as Argyll Forest Park.
Despite its small size, Inveraray has a big historic and cultural presence: it grew as an 18th‑century planned village connected with the Dukes of Argyll and the Campbells, and is dominated by Inveraray Castle. Visitors are drawn by the castle and local museums such as Inveraray Jail, whisky and seafood - Loch Fyne oysters remain a local speciality - and the town’s economy is centred on tourism, fishing and heritage, with a close-knit community and regular local events that keep the village lively through the year.
