Helensburgh sits on the north shore of the Firth of Clyde at the mouth of the Gare Loch, on the southern edge of Loch Lomond and within Argyll and Bute in Scotland. The town's long Victorian esplanade and well-preserved terraces give sweeping views across the Clyde to the islands of Bute and Arran, and regular rail services make it a popular commuter base for Glasgow.
Helensburgh has a strong cultural and historic identity - it is associated with John Logie Baird, the television pioneer, and is home to Hill House by Charles Rennie Mackintosh - while the nearby naval base at Faslane (HMNB Clyde) is a significant local employer. Tourism, boutique shops and a mix of commuter affluence and long-standing local communities give the town a rather pleasant, slightly genteel seaside character.
