Kerrera sits just off the coast from Oban in Argyll and Bute, Scotland, guarding the entrance to Loch Linnhe between the mainland and Mull. The island is long and narrow with rocky headlands, wooded gullies and sheltered bays, reached by a very short ferry and crossed by a single-track road; its coastline and quiet waters make it popular with walkers, sea‑kayakers and wildlife watchers.
Despite a small permanent population, Kerrera has a strong community feel and a mixed economy of crofting, small-scale tourism and holiday lets. History is visible across the island, from archaeological remains through to the dramatic ruined 16th‑century Gylen Castle, and you’ll often find seals, otters, seabirds and red deer around the shores and headlands.
