The island of Lismore sits low and largely agricultural in the middle of the Firth of Lorn, between Mull and Morvern, and forms part of Argyll and Bute, Scotland. Its fertile soils gave rise to the Gaelic name Lios Mòr, often called the "great garden of Lorn", and a small community of a few hundred people makes its living from mixed farming, crafts, tourism and a modest amount of marine work; the island is accessible by a regular ferry link to the mainland.
Lismore has a long human story: early Christian associations with St Moluag made it an important medieval ecclesiastical centre, and the island preserves notable Pictish carved stones and archaeological sites from the Neolithic and Iron Age, interpreted at the local heritage centre. Quiet lanes, dramatic coastal views and good birdlife make it popular with walkers and anyone seeking a peaceful, historically rich Hebridean experience.
