Easdale is a tiny, low-lying island in Argyll and Bute, Scotland, one of the historic Slate Islands and reached by a short passenger ferry from neighbouring Seil. Once a bustling centre of 19th-century slate quarrying, the island’s quarries were largely abandoned after severe storms and now form deep, drowned pans and dramatic rock faces that give the place a striking, rugged character.
Today Easdale has a small, close-knit community and a quiet tourism economy built around its unusual landscape, local cottages and a handful of artists and craft-makers. It’s best known internationally for the annual World Stone Skimming Championship and for opportunities for swimming, kayaking and exploring the island’s industrial heritage rather than any heavy industry.
