Annandale East and Eskdale

Annandale East and Eskdale is an electoral ward in the largely rural council area of Dumfries and Galloway in south-west Scotland, covering a sweep of river valleys, rolling farmland and upland fringes. The ward takes in parts of the Annan and Esk catchments, sitting beneath the Southern Uplands, and is noted for its scenic landscapes and small, dispersed communities rather than any large urban centre.

Economically it leans on agriculture, forestry and a modest but growing tourism sector that taps hillwalking, cycling and wildlife watching around nearby hills such as the Moffat Hills. Culturally and historically the area shares the Borderlands’ legacy of reiving and castle ruins, and local life still revolves around village halls, agricultural shows and community events that keep a strong rural identity.
