Sanday is a small tidal islet just off the eastern shore of Canna in the Small Isles of the Inner Hebrides, within Highland, Scotland. At low tide a sandbar links it to Canna, and its low dunes, machair and sandy bays support a rich variety of wildflowers and nesting seabirds, with seals and otters often seen around the shore.
Steeped in Norse and Gaelic history and closely connected to the scholarly legacy of John Lorne Campbell on neighbouring Canna, the islet today is prized for crofting, conservation and quiet tourism. Its tiny, close‑knit community focuses on farming, habitat management and welcoming visitors who come for wildlife, walking and a strong sense of remote island life.
