Map of the UK

Rùm is the largest of the Small Isles in the Inner Hebrides, off the west coast of Scotland within the Highland council area. The island is dominated by a dramatic Tertiary igneous massif with jagged peaks such as Askival, sweeping moorland, machair and sea cliffs, making it a draw for hillwalkers, geologists and birdwatchers.

A small community based at Kinloch supports crofting, conservation work and a seasonal tourism economy; the island is designated a National Nature Reserve and is important for red deer, seabird colonies and rare plants, as well as for archaeological remains from the Iron Age through the 19th‑century clearances. Access is by ferry from Mallaig, and the limited services and changeable weather help keep Rùm quietly wild.
