Buckie sits on the north-east coast of Moray in Scotland, facing the sheltered waters of the Moray Firth. The town grew up around several small harbours and its coastline mixes cliffs and sandy bays, with regular opportunities for seal and dolphin spotting off the shore; it also makes a handy base for coastal walks and visiting nearby fishing villages such as Findochty and Portknockie.
Historically the town expanded in the 19th-century herring boom and retains a strong fishing and boatbuilding heritage, though the local economy is now more mixed with seafood processing, other services and a bit of tourism linked to the coast and nearby Speyside whisky country. Community life is lively for its size, with local clubs and traditions - the town’s football side, Buckie Thistle, remains a focal point for residents.
