The ward of Penparcau sits on the southern edge of Aberystwyth in Ceredigion, on low-lying ground beside Cardigan Bay and near the mouth of the River Rheidol. It is notable for the prominent ridge of Pen Dinas, an Iron Age hillfort with older burial mounds and earthworks that testify to a very long history of settlement in the area.
Today Penparcau is largely residential, with local shops, a primary school and active community groups, while many residents commute into Aberystwyth for jobs in education, public services and tourism. The nearby caravan parks of Clarach Bay and the coastal promenade bring a seasonal boost, and the ward retains a strong Welsh-speaking identity alongside a mix of social housing and long-standing village communities.
