Borth is a coastal village in Ceredigion, sitting on the eastern shore of Cardigan Bay a few miles north of Aberystwyth. It has a long sandy beach backed by dunes at Ynyslas and the neighbouring peatlands of Cors Fochno, which form part of the Dyfi National Nature Reserve and the Dyfi Biosphere. At low tide the well‑known submerged ancient oak forest is visible on the foreshore, a striking archaeological and natural feature that draws interest from walkers and historians alike.
Originally boosted by the arrival of the railway in the Victorian era, the village today relies on tourism, holiday parks and small local businesses, with birdwatching, walking and beach visits popular activities. Despite the visitor trade there remains a strong community atmosphere with local shops and pubs, and many residents also commute to Aberystwyth; the area offers coastal scenery with views inland towards the Cambrian Mountains.
