Aberdovey is a small coastal village on the estuary of the River Dovey (Afon Dyfi) in Gwynedd, Wales, tucked on the edge of Cardigan Bay and beneath the hills of Snowdonia. Its long sandy beach, harbour and dunes at the Dyfi Estuary draw walkers, birdwatchers and watersports enthusiasts, while the Cambrian coast setting gives dramatic sea and mountain views.
Historically a fishing and maritime community that expanded as a Victorian resort with the coming of the railway, the village today relies on tourism, sailing and local services; there’s an active boating scene, an RNLI presence and the classic links course at Aberdovey Golf Club. It retains a strong Welsh-speaking identity, narrow streets of cottages, a few welcoming pubs and a balance between year‑round community life and the ebb and flow of holidaymakers.
