Borth sits on the eastern shore of Cardigan Bay in Ceredigion, Wales, a long, low-lying coastal settlement famed for its wide sandy beach and shifting dunes. At low tide you can see the exposed stumps of an ancient submerged forest on the foreshore, and just behind the beach are the dunes of Ynyslas and the peatland of Cors Fochno, part of the Dyfi Biosphere Reserve, which make the area important for wildlife and popular with walkers and birdwatchers.
The village grew in the Victorian era with the arrival of the Cambrian Line, and tourism now sits alongside agriculture and small local trades as the backbone of the economy. There’s a strong community feel with local events and volunteer groups, and easy access to Aberystwyth makes it a pleasant base for exploring the coast and the nearby estuary environments.
