Llandysul is a small market town in rural Ceredigion, set on the banks of the River Teifi in the attractive Teifi Valley, near the county boundary with Carmarthenshire and roughly ten miles inland from Cardigan. Its riverside setting and surrounding hills make it a popular base for walking, canoeing and other outdoor pursuits, and the town’s bridge and compact centre give a distinctly traditional West Wales feel.
Historically the town grew around woollen and other water-powered mills and still bears the imprint of that industrial past; its name recalls the parish church dedicated to St Tysul. Today the local economy is a mix of agriculture, small businesses and tourism, with a strong Welsh-speaking community and active local groups keeping cultural and social life lively.
