Llanelli Rural

Llanelli Rural is a large civil parish on the coast of Carmarthenshire in south‑west Wales, broadly surrounding the urban centre of Llanelli. The parish includes a varied coastal and estuarine landscape along the Burry Inlet, with dunes, saltmarsh and the Millennium Coastal Park nearby, giving good access to beaches and Pembrey Country Park while also containing agricultural and semi‑rural settlements.

Historically the area was shaped by coal, tinplate and associated heavy industry tied to growth in Llanelli, and that industrial past informs a strong local community and rugby culture; today the parish is a mix of farming, commuter settlements for nearby Swansea, tourism and conservation interest for migrating birdlife on the estuary, with active local efforts around regeneration and maintaining Welsh language and cultural traditions.
