Ammanford is a small market town in Carmarthenshire, Wales, tucked into the steep-sided Amman Valley where the River Amman runs through. It expanded rapidly in the 19th century with coal and anthracite mining and the coming of the railway, having previously been known as Cross Inn before the town adopted the present name.
Today Ammanford still shows its industrial and Welsh-language heritage: there’s a strong community focus on rugby, choirs and local events, while the local economy mixes retail, light industry and commuters who travel to larger centres such as Swansea and Carmarthen. The surrounding hills offer walks and a sense of the former valley industry that shaped the town.
