The small market town of Caerwys sits in north‑eastern Flintshire in north Wales, perched near the foothills of the Clwydian Range and Halkyn Mountain. It acts as a local service centre for surrounding farms and villages, with a handful of shops, pubs and community facilities and many residents who commute to larger towns for work.
Caerwys has a long history - its name includes the Welsh element "caer" (fort) and it was granted market and fair rights in the medieval period. The town is also noted for a historic eisteddfod in the sixteenth century that helped shape the role of Welsh poets, and today retains a strong village character with stone buildings, a notable parish church and active local societies that keep Welsh cultural traditions alive.
