The Shotton East and Shotton Higher area sits on the north bank of the River Dee in north‑eastern Flintshire, forming part of the wider Deeside conurbation in north‑east Wales. It benefits from road and rail links, including Shotton railway station, which connect residents to neighbouring towns and to Chester and beyond.
Historically the neighbourhood grew up around heavy industry, notably the Shotton steelworks, and much of its housing and community infrastructure reflects that working‑class, industrial heritage. In recent years the ward has seen economic change and pockets of regeneration, with local shops, light industry, green spaces by the Dee and active community groups helping to maintain a strong local identity.
