Holyhead is a busy port town on Holy Island off the western tip of the Isle of Anglesey in Wales. It occupies a natural harbour protected by a long Victorian breakwater and serves as the principal ferry terminal to Dublin; nearby features such as Holyhead Mountain and South Stack give the area dramatic cliffs, seabird colonies and popular coastal walks.
Historically the town grew up around a Roman fort and St Cybi's Church, with 19th‑century harbour works shaping its maritime character. Today the port, freight and ferry services, plus tourism, dominate the local economy, while a strongly bilingual community with a proud Welsh identity is connected to the mainland by the A55 and Holyhead railway station.
