Valley is a small village on the northwest of the Isle of Anglesey, a few miles from the transport hub of Holyhead. It sits beside coastal wetlands and reserves that attract birdwatchers and walkers, and the landscape is a mix of low-lying marsh, dune-backed beaches and agricultural land. The village is notable for RAF Valley, the island’s main military airfield, which also supports a modest civilian terminal often used for short flights across to Dublin, so aviation and related services play a big part in the local economy.
Socially and culturally Valley reflects the strong Welsh-speaking traditions of Anglesey, with a community oriented around farming, tourism and the airbase; local life is quietly shaped by the rhythms of training exercises, bird migration and seasonal visitors. The wider island has deep historic roots - Anglesey was a significant centre in pre‑Roman Wales - so Valley combines a rural, maritime character with links to both contemporary transport and long-standing Welsh culture.
