Mona is the classical name for the Isle of Anglesey (Welsh Ynys Môn), the large island off north‑west Wales separated from the mainland by the Menai Strait. It’s known for its varied coastline of sandy beaches and sea cliffs, wildlife reserves such as South Stack, long coastal walks and the busy ferry and freight hub at Holyhead.
Historically Mona features in Roman accounts as a Druid stronghold and the island is rich in prehistoric sites like Bryn Celli Ddu and Barclodiad y Gawres. Today the economy mixes farming - especially dairy and beef - with tourism and energy projects around Wylfa, and Welsh language and local culture remain strong in everyday life.
