Knighton is a small market town in Powys, Wales, sitting on the banks of the River Teme close to the English border. It has Norman earthworks from a motte-and-bailey castle and is best known for the medieval frontier bank Offa's Dyke, which runs through the town; the long-distance Offa's Dyke Path brings many walkers and makes Knighton a popular stop for countryside visitors.
Locally the economy is largely agricultural, with sheep farming and small-scale rural businesses, complemented by tourism, independent shops and a station on the Heart of Wales Line that links to Shrewsbury and Swansea. Social life is characteristically close-knit, marked by community events such as the annual agricultural show and services geared to walkers and borderland visitors.
