Llanfair Caereinion is a small market town in Powys sitting on the banks of the River Banwy and acting as a service hub for the surrounding farms; its stone-built streets, cosy pubs and independent shops still reflect a traditional Montgomeryshire character. The town is perhaps best known to visitors as the terminus of the heritage Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway, and it serves as a convenient gateway for walking into the nearby hills and enjoying the rural scenery.
Llanerfyl is a predominantly rural ward of scattered villages and hamlets, centred on the village of the same name, with an economy rooted in upland and pastoral farming and small-scale local services. The area is notable for its tranquil landscapes, historic parish church and tight-knit community life, with plenty of opportunities for wildlife watching and quiet country walks rather than busy tourist facilities.
