The parish of Banwy sits in the rolling uplands of Powys in mid-Wales, straddling the valley of the River Banwy. The landscape is a mix of pasture, hedged fields and small pockets of woodland, with scattered farms and hamlets and plenty of quiet lanes and walking country.
Traditionally agricultural, with sheep and cattle farming at its heart, the local economy now also includes some tourism and holiday lets. The area’s long history is visible in a medieval parish church and a handful of vernacular buildings, and community life is small and close‑knit, relying for services and markets on nearby towns such as Welshpool and Llanfyllin.
