Bangor-on-Dee is a small village in the county borough of Wrexham, in eastern Wales, sited beside the winding River Dee on the borderlands with England. Historically the settlement is associated with an early medieval monastery, known in Welsh as Bangor-is-y-Coed, and that heritage still colours the village’s identity even though the community today is compact and largely agricultural.
One of the village’s most noticeable features is Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse, a popular National Hunt venue that brings regular visitors and helps support the local economy. Beyond racing, the area is valued for riverside walks, its peaceful rural character and the sense of being part of the historic Dee Valley rather than a busy urban centre.
