Flint in Flintshire, north‑east Wales sits on the banks of the Dee Estuary, close to the English border and the cathedral city of Chester. Its skyline is dominated by the dramatic ruins of Flint Castle, built by Edward I in 1277 as part of the conquest of Wales, and the castle’s riverside position once made the town an important strategic and maritime gateway.
Today Flint is a compact market town with a mix of independent shops, community events and heritage attractions, while sharing the industrial hinterland of Deeside and nearby Broughton, where aerospace and manufacturing provide significant employment. The town retains a strong local identity, with markets, clubs and easy access to coastal walks and cycling routes along the estuary.
