Childs Hill is a largely residential ward in the north of the London Borough of Barnet, sitting between Hampstead, Golders Green and Finchley in London. It has a suburban, leafy feel with a mix of Victorian and early‑20th‑century terraces alongside interwar and post‑war housing, local parades of shops and some small parkland, while remaining well connected for commuters into the centre.
Historically it grew as London expanded in the 19th and early 20th centuries and today combines long‑standing local communities with a fairly diverse population, a handful of social‑housing estates and active residents’ groups. The local economy is largely independent and service‑based - corner shops, cafes and trades - so the area tends to feel modest and community‑oriented rather than a major commercial hub.
