Chenies sits in the Chess Valley of Buckinghamshire, tucked into the beech-clad slopes of the Chiltern Hills about 20–25 miles north‑west of London. The village clusters along the chalk stream of the River Chess, with a scattering of stone and timber cottages, countryside footpaths and a rural character that attracts walkers and day visitors.
Its most notable features are the moated Chenies Manor House and the adjacent Bedford Chapel, the burial place of the Russell family, which give the parish a pronounced Tudor and post‑medieval heritage. Today the area remains largely residential and agricultural, with a small local economy supported by tourism, rural enterprises and commuters to London, while an active village community looks after local events and the sensitive chalk‑stream environment.
