Chalfont St. Giles is a large village in Buckinghamshire, England, tucked into the chalk slopes of the Chiltern Hills and straddling the small chalk-stream River Misbourne. About 18 miles north‑west of London, it forms one of the trio of local settlements often called the Chalfonts alongside Chalfont St Peter and Little Chalfont and combines the feel of a rural village with easy commuter links via Chalfont & Latimer station.
The village is best known for Milton's Cottage, the only surviving home of John Milton where he stayed during the Great Plague and worked on Paradise Lost, and for its attractive village green, historic church and traditional pubs. Today it has a largely commuter‑based economy with local shops and community events, popular walking routes into the surrounding hills, and the characteristic charms and occasional flooding of a settlement beside a chalk stream.
