Whitefield is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Bury, in Greater Manchester, lying between Bury and Prestwich roughly five miles north of Manchester city centre. It sits along the main road into the town and is served by the Metrolink tram, making it a convenient commuter suburb with a mix of suburban streets, local shops and pockets of green space close to Heaton Park.
Historically part of Lancashire, Whitefield expanded in the 19th century with textile-related industry and Victorian and Edwardian housing; its name recalls the evangelical preacher George Whitefield. The town today is largely residential with independent shops, pubs and community venues, and nearby neighbourhoods such as Besses o' th' Barn add local character through long-standing social traditions and community events.
