March is a market town and parish in the district of Fenland, Cambridgeshire, in England. It sits on the edge of the low-lying Fens close to the River Nene, an area shaped by drainage schemes and peat working so the landscape is known for wide skies, straight drains and productive arable land. Historically the town grew as a market and transport hub after the enclosure and drainage of the Fens and later with the arrival of the railways, which helped link it to places such as Peterborough and Ely.
Today March retains a mixed economy based on agriculture, light industry and local services, with many residents commuting to larger regional centres. The community maintains a strong Fenland identity through local clubs, heritage groups and events, while modest historic buildings and country walks around the drains and reedbeds give a sense of the region’s industrial and natural past.
